Alsobrooks leads Hogan by double digits in Maryland Senate poll

Democratic candidate Angela Alsobrooks is leading former Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, her Republican opponent, by double digits in a new poll in the state’s hotly contested Senate race.

The poll, from The Washington Post and the University of Maryland, found 51 percent of likely voters in the Old Line State backing Alsobrooks, the Prince George’s County executive, and 40 percent backing Hogan.

Vice President Harris garnered 63 percent support from likely voters in Maryland in the same poll, compared to 31 percent for former President Trump.

Harris is a huge favorite in Maryland, which should help Alsobrooks’s chances. But Repubicans have been hoping for an upset given Hogan’s popularity in the state as a two-term governor.

The latest poll is similar to another recent poll from The Hill/DC News Now/Emerson College released last week. It found Alsobrooks garnering 49 percent support from likely voters compared to Hogan’s 42 percent support.

According to an average of Maryland polls from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ, Alsobrooks leads with 49.9 percent compared to Hogan’s 40.5 percent.

The Post-UMD poll took place Sep. 19-23 and featured 1,012 registered voters. Its margin of sampling error was plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
