Harris campaign highlights Jack Smith revelations in Trump case in new ad
Vice President Harris’s campaign highlighted special counsel Jack Smith’s unsealed filing in a Monday ad to argue that former President Trump’s actions on Jan. 6, 2021, were worse than the public originally thought.
The 30-second ad titled “Bombshell” features the filing, which was unsealed last week and outlines Smith’s pathway for his election interference case against Trump, describing his bid to thwart the transfer of power as a “private criminal effort.” The unsealed filing comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s immunity decision.
“But it’s worse than we thought. Much worse than we thought,” the ad reads, showing images of the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
The ad cites media reports about Smith’s filing that called the contents of his case against Trump “bombshell after bombshell.” And, it noted that Trump allegedly said “so what?” when he was told former Vice President Pence was in danger that day, citing the filing.
The ad then shows an image of Pence replaced by an image of Trump’s running mate Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), adding, “And next time, there will be no one to stop him.”
The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the ad.
Harris’s campaign has made Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 a focus of her rebukes against him, arguing that he is a threat to democracy if reelected, especially after the immunity decision.
