Angela Alsobrooks, the Democratic candidate in the Maryland Senate race, released an ad Tuesday featuring voters who previously supported the state’s former governor, Larry Hogan (R), but are now refusing to elect him to the Senate.
“Larry Hogan would give Republicans control of the Senate,” Joe Palka of Gaithersburg said in the video, posted on the social platform X.
His statement is followed by different speakers who say the GOP, with control of the Senate, could pass a national abortion ban, tax cuts for big corporations and appoint extreme Supreme Court Justices.
“I don’t want Republicans to have control,” said Diane Stokes of Hyattsville.
The ad, titled “This Time’s Different,” harps on the potential impact of a Senate with a Republican majority.
“I voted for Larry Hogan before, but no way this time,” Palka emphasized.
Hogan, who served two terms as governor from 2015-23, has distanced himself from former President Trump in an effort to earn voters’ support. He has poured $19 million into TV ad reservations, while Alsobrooks has only spent $2 million in future ads.
Alsobrooks has a lead of 9.4 percentage points with voters in the traditionally blue state of Maryland, according to The Hill’s internal polling site, Decision Desk HQ. In the past week, the Prince George’s County executive has earned endorsements from former President Obama and The Washington Post.
