Poll shows Romney leading in New Hampshire

New poll results released Monday show former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney surging into the lead for the Republican presidential nomination in New Hampshire.

The SurveyUSA poll, conducted after last week’s GOP debate and on behalf of WBZ-TV in Boston, shows Romney in the lead in the early-primary state with 32 percent. That represents an 11-percent increase over results compiled on Jan. 29.

{mosads}Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain each lost 10 percent and now poll at 23 percent and 22 percent respectively.

Romney polls most strongly with self-described conservatives, while Giuliani was ahead among moderates and liberals.

On the Democratic side, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) leads with 40 percent, followed by Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) with 24 percent and former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards with 22 percent.

The poll was conducted from May 4 through May 6 and has a 4 percent margin of error.
