Whitehead’s runoff opponent still uncertain
Georgia state Sen. Jim Whitehead (R) will head to a runoff against either Democrat James Marlow or Republican Paul Broun next month after falling short Tuesday of getting 50 percent of the vote in the special election for the state’s 10th congressional district seat.
{mosads}Unofficial results Wednesday morning show Whitehead taking 43.5 percent of the vote, while Broun leads Marlow by about 100 votes out of 50,000 cast. Both Broun and Marlow took about 20 percent.
The runoff will be held July 17, and Whitehead remains the favorite.
The seat became vacant when Rep. Charles Norwood (R-Ga.) died earlier this year.
