Romney nearly matches campaign’s $10 million haul

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) raised $10 million in the third quarter and also supplemented his presidential campaign with $8.5 million of his own money.

{mosads}Romney, whose personal wealth is estimated to be about $200 million, also infused his campaign with cash in the previous two quarters. In total, he has given about$17.5 million to his campaign.

For the year, he has raised $45 million from more than 100,000 contributors for the Republican primary.

“Governor Romney’s message of conservative change and returning to conservative principles in Washington is resonating with people from across the country as his support continues to build,” the campaign said Thursday.

The campaign has $9 million cash on hand. Romney has been taking to the airwaves with ads more aggressively than any other candidate. The former governor repeatedly has stated that he does not yet have the name recognition that some of his rivals enjoy and that he would use his campaign funds to give voters a chance to get to know him.

“Our campaign made considerable progress this quarter expanding Governor Romney’s support across the country,” spokesman Kevin Madden said. “From the grassroots victory [at the Iowa straw poll] to the campaign’s first Ask Mitt Anything [event] in California, Governor Romney has built a nationwide network of volunteers and supporters that are energizing our efforts as we work towards the first votes being cast in January.”
