DNC votes to strip Michigan of delegates

The Democratic National Committee voted Saturday to strip Michigan of all of its delegates after the state bucked party rules by moving up its presidential primary to Jan. 15.

{mosads}The committee’s move to strip the state of all 156 delegates from the party’s convention in Denver next year was long anticipated. To reduce the influence of Iowa and New Hampshire in the nominating contest, Michigan along with Florida ignored the threats of the committee and moved up their primary dates into January.

The committee’s Saturday vote angered Michigan lawmakers, but the Democratic candidates have sided with the committee, agreeing not to campaign in the state.
