Clinton stuns Obama in New Hampshire
NASHUA, N.H. – Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) shocked the political world and Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.) by winning the Democratic primary of New Hampshire, the state that made her husband the “comeback kid” in 1992.
{mosads}Following a win in the Iowa caucus and very favorable press coverage, Obama was expected to cruise to victory here Tuesday night and the only question was by how much he would win. But Clinton, who had to battle questions about her campaign strategy and whether she still had a shot at the nomination, bounced back surprisingly strong, and with 67 percent of precincts reporting, she led Obama 39 percent to 36 percent, causing the Associated Press and NBC News to proclaim her the winner.
After the former first lady’s win here, the pundits who proclaimed that the Democratic race would be over following the New Hampshire vote now have to reconsider their claims. Clinton has maintained since Iowa that the Democratic nomination would not be settled until Feb. 5, when many states, including California, New York and New Jersey, will hold their primaries.
