Obama uses report on Romney tax plan to call him ‘Robin Hood in reverse’

President Obama on Monday said his opponent Mitt Romney’s tax plan is “like Robin Hood in reverse,” taking money from middle-class families to benefit the wealthy.

“It’s Romney Hood,” Obama said at a fundraiser in Connecticut, as a crowd cheered and whistled at the one-liner.

{mosads}Obama — who has frequently cited a recent report from the Tax Policy Center while on the campaign trail in recent days — has maintained that Romney’s tax plan would be a burden on middle-class families.  

“He’s asking you to pay more so that people like him can pay less,” the president has repeated at a string of campaign stops over the last week.

But the Romney campaign has pushed back on the tax report, saying that the author worked in the Obama administration. Obama made the comment at one of two fundraisers in Connecticut, where he is expected to raise $2 million for his reelection campaign. 

Ryan Williams, a Romney campaign spokesman, responded to Obama’s statements.

“President Obama recently said the biggest regret of his first term was not telling better stories. He’s trying to make up for it now, but his stories just aren’t true,” Williams said. “There’s only one candidate in this race who’s going to raise taxes on the American people — and that’s Barack Obama. While he’s used taxpayer dollars to grow government and reward his donors, middle-class Americans have seen fewer jobs, lower incomes and less hope for the future. Mitt Romney has a plan for a stronger middle class — and, unlike President Obama, a record of accomplishment behind it.”
