Court rules against Renzi’s attempt to disqualify evidence
{mosads}Renzi has denied the charges against him and maintained his innocence over the last three years since he was originally indicted.
The DOJ heralded the decision.
“We are very pleased with the circuit court’s ruling in this matter,” said DOJ spokeswoman Laura Sweeney in a statement.
The executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which has aided the prosecution’s case, called the court’s decision a victory and said the matter may end up before the Supreme Court.
“Happily, the Court soundly rejected Rayburn, putting legislators on notice that the 9th Circuit at least will not protect them should they engage in bribery or extortion,” said Melanie Sloan.
“Given that the Court explicitly declined to follow the D.C. Circuit’s decision in Rayburn, it appears the question of how broadly to interpret the Clause may be headed to the Supreme Court.”
