Boehner: Obama acting like an ’emperor’
Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) accused President Obama of acting like a “king” and an “emperor” by signing an executive order that would shield millions of immigrants in the country illegally from deportation.
“Instead of working together to fix our broken immigration, the president says he’s acting on his own. That’s just not how our democracy works,” Boehner said in a 28-second video message posted on YouTube Thursday, hours before Obama’s address.
{mosads}”The president had said before that he’s not king, and he’s not an emperor, but he’s sure acting like one,” the Speaker continued. “And he’s dong it at a time when the American people want nothing more than for us to work together.”
Obama is expected to outline his immigration plans in a prime-time address Thursday night. Boehner, who has vowed to fight “tooth and nail” to stop the president’s unilateral action to change immigration policies, will give a longer rebuttal at a news conference at the Capitol on Friday morning.
The Democratic National Committee is rebutting Boehner’s response in a video post.
