Speaker Ryan: No terrorist threat to Capitol
Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Tuesday said he doesn’t believe there is any credible security threat to the Capitol in the wake of a series of deadly terrorist attacks in Brussels.
“We have reached out to intelligence community, and I have received updates this morning,” Ryan told reporters in a news conference, “and I have absolutely no reason to believe there is a threat here.”
{mosads}Ryan opened his remarks by expressing condolences to the Belgian people, calling the scenes emerging from the carnage at the Brussels airport and subway station “horrific.”
“One minute, people are going about their day. The next minute, people are running for their lives,” Ryan said. “This is a terrorist attack in the heart of Europe. As our countries have always done, we must confront this threat together. We must defend democracy and defeat terror.
“Our prayers are with Brussels, as is our solidarity.”
