Boehner laments ‘new normal,’ pushes ‘nation of builders’

{mosads}“Our economy has been growing so slowly because we’ve been investing in government rather than in ourselves and the resources we’ve been blessed with,” Boehner said in an economic speech to the National Association of Manufacturers.

“We need a new approach that revives tried and true habits … an approach that removes obstacles to growth and prosperity … an approach that encourages every firm, every small business, and every person to create wealth and contribute to our growth.

“We need to unleash the nation of builders,” Boehner said.

The Speaker did not unveil new policy proposals in his address, instead touting Republican priorities that include elimination of environmental regulation, a simplified tax code and the construction of the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline. He also called for immigration reform, but did not specify conditions.

“Instead of restricting development, we need to green-light the Keystone pipeline and we need to expand production of our resources – onshore and offshore,” he said. “That’s how we become a nation of builders again. All of these are the types of policies that can bring us out of the new normal, help create jobs, and deliver sustained economic growth.”
