House Dem: Spicer ‘makes s— up’
Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) didn’t hold back on Monday when expressing frustration over the new White House press secretary attempting to spread falsehoods about the size of the crowd at President Trump’s inauguration.
It apparently started when Lieu was charged the wrong price for a cup of coffee to start the week.
“Was charged $2.99 for coffee listed at $2.59. That’s why I have trust issues. Oh, and the fact that @seanspicer at #WhiteHouse makes shit up,” Lieu tweeted.
Sean Spicer used his first appearance in the West Wing briefing room on Saturday to declare that Trump’s inauguration had “the largest audience to ever witness an inauguration, period,” contradicting all available data.
{mosads}Spicer misstated Metro statistics, saying that 420,000 had used the system on Friday, compared with 317,000 during former President Obama’s second inauguration in 2013. But Metro said there were actually 782,000 entries on Inauguration Day four years ago.
Photographs comparing the National Mall during Trump’s inauguration on Friday and Obama’s in 2009 show a significantly smaller crowd this year.
Nielsen ratings also show Obama’s first inauguration had a bigger television audience than Trump’s.
Lieu was among the more than 60 House Democrats who boycotted Trump’s inauguration.
