GOP rep points to ‘decent amount of voter fraud’ in Virginia

Rep. Scott Taylor (R-Va.) in an interview early Monday emphasized the importance of taking the necessary steps to ensure the integrity of U.S. elections, noting instances of voter fraud in Virginia.

“I think it’s important to show some evidence for mass voter fraud,” he said on CNN’s “New Day.”

“We all know it does exist. We should certainly take precautions to keep the integrity of our elections in this country.”

When pressed on whether vast voter fraud exists, Taylor said: “I don’t think there’s vast voter fraud, certainly not in Virginia, but there are some instances of voter fraud.”

President Trump has long alleged widespread voter in the 2016 presidential election. He has made unsubstantiated claims that 3 million to 5 million illegal votes were cast in the presidential election, costing him the popular vote. In January, he tweeted that he would ask for a major investigation into voter fraud in the country.

Taylor said Monday there is evidence of voter fraud in Virginia.

He pointed to a study that looked at about eight counties in Virginia and found a “decent amount of voter fraud.”

“Sure, there are instances of voter fraud, in Virginia, just in the eight counties that were studied,” he said.

“I’m not going to get into what the numbers are and whose definition of massive or not, but again, I think that it’s responsible for every state to be able to take precautions to have integrity in our elections.”

When pushed further, Taylor said there were “more than a handful” of cases of voter fraud in Virginia.

“I don’t know of evidence of massive, millions of voter fraud that I’m hearing out of the White House; sure I’d like to see it of course,” he said.

“If he’s on national television saying there’s evidence of massive, millions of voter fraud, sure he should show some. Absolutely.”
