Demonstrators troll Chaffetz with invoices for ‘paid protest hours’

A mock invoice addressed to Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) is circulating online after he accused a large crowd of protesters that gathered at his town hall last week of being “paid.”

The $500 fake bill is addressed to Chaffetz’s office in Provo, Utah, The Daily Kos reported Monday.

The document lists a $400 charge for “paid protest hours” during Chaffetz’s Feb. 9 town hall at Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights, Utah.

It also lists two $50 fees for “being callously dismissed by representative” and “being labeled out-of-state radical.”

{mosads}The bill, with a due date of March 1, additionally thanks Chaffetz for “bringing it to our attention that this was a paid event” and urges him to “please stop dismissing your constituents.”

Chaffetz said Friday that protesters who disrupted his town hall were “a paid attempt to bully and intimidate.”

“You could see it online a couple days before, a concerted effort in part to just cause chaos,” he said, according to KSL.com. “Democrats are in disbelief that they have nothing but flailing and screaming to defend this.”

“[I’ll] never satisfy their desire to bring down [President] Donald Trump,” the House Oversight Committee chairman added.

“People are asking me to use the power of Congress to do a full-on fishing expedition to investigate him personally on things that are not required by law. I think my doing that would be an abuse of power.”

Chaffetz faced a flood of protesters during his hometown event, with many demonstrators challenging his treatment of Trump.

Protesters repeatedly booed Chaffetz’s mentions of Trump, and some brandished signs reading “disagree” at the Utah lawmaker.

Chaffetz was a key player in the Benghazi and email server investigations that dogged 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Protesters urged Chaffetz to scrutinize Trump with the same vigor he applied to Clinton.
