Crowd chants ‘do your job’ at GOP rep
Rep. Martha McSally (R-Ariz.) faced an angry crowd demanding she hold President Trump’s feet to the fire at a town hall event Thursday.
A crowd of about 250 people chanted “Do your job” at McSally, and one person confronted her, saying, “You are not answering our questions,” at the event in Sahuarita, Ariz., according to the Arizona Republic.
“We have to have a smart immigration policy,” McSally said at one point, inspiring groans from a crowd that found the response vague.
A 9-year-old boy asked McSally why new Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is qualified for her post, prompting her to wonder why she would not fit the role.
{mosads}“Because she wants guns at schools,” the boy responded, drawing cheers from some in the crowd.
“I am not in the Senate, thank God,” McSally said later, referencing the upper chamber’s razor-thin confirmation vote for DeVos that required Vice President Pence to cast a tie-breaking vote.
McSally, a retired Air Force colonel, also faced questions on healthcare, gun rights and immigration reform.
GOP lawmakers are facing tough crowds at town halls during this week’s congressional recess, with audience members challenging them on topics like ObamaCare and Trump’s agenda.
Trump tweeted Tuesday that the “so-called angry crowds in home districts of some Republicans are actually, in numerous cases, planned out by liberal activists.”
