Pelosi: Dems showed ‘dignity’ during Trump speech
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) says she’s proud of the “dignity” Democrats showed during President Trump’s address to Congress.
“I was very proud of the dignity with which our members listened to his speech, which was clearly a bait-and-switch speech,” Pelosi said Wednesday morning on on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
Pelosi panned the speech as mostly talk with no action.
{mosads}“We are legislators. So you want to talk? Show us your proposal, and we’ll go from there. He hasn’t had a proposal on jobs, on infrastructure, not even renegotiating NAFTA, which he promised,” she said, referring to the North American Free Trade Agreement.
During Trump’s Tuesday address, Democrats showed visible signs of disapproval throughout the speech, including head shaking and groaning. But they stopped short of loudly booing or seeking to interrupt the president.
When MSNBC host Joe Scarborough asked whether Democrats planned to behave in a dignified manner, Pelosi side-stepped the question.
“What happens in the caucus, stays in the caucus,” she said with a chuckle, before noting a caucus member who said, “If you can’t curb your enthusiasm there tonight, don’t go, and I’m not going.”
