House reschedules healthcare bill markup due to weather

The House Budget Committee announced Monday evening that it had rescheduled its markup of the GOP’s healthcare bill because of inclement weather expected in Washington, D.C.

The markup was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but the committee announced Monday evening that it will now take place on Thursday.

{mosads}Earlier in the day, Chairwoman Diane Black (R-Tenn.) release a statement about the Congressional Budget Office’s (CBO) analysis of the GOP’s plan to replace the Affordable Care Act.

“The CBO report shows that our bill lowers premiums by 10 percent by 2026, while increasing choice and creating a vibrant marketplace for consumers,” she wrote. “The bill reduces the deficit by $337 billion and lowers taxes by $883 billion for Americans and small business owners. The American Health Care Act expands choice and freedom while reducing costs and saving taxpayer dollars. We look forward to acting on it in the House Budget Committee this week.” 

The CBO on Monday projected that the number of people without health insurance would grow by 14 million in 2018 under the Republican healthcare plan, with that number rising to 24 million in a decade.
