Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-Texas) says President Trump is lying about former President Obama wiretapping him.
“Do you think Trump was lying about the wiretapping?” CNN host Chris Cuomo asked Castro on “New Day” on Tuesday.
“Yes,” Castro responded.
{mosads}He added that he’s happy to hear that the FBI is investigating possible connections between Trump’s campaign and Russia.
“You know, it’s the beginning of the investigation,” Castro said. “And so, I think most of all what everybody should hope for, aside from the partisanship, is to get the truth.”
“This shouldn’t be a witch hunt against anybody, nobody should be prejudged. At the same time, as the FBI director mentioned yesterday, the committee and the FBI should be willing to go where the evidence leads.”
FBI Director James Comey said Monday the Department of Justice has “no information” supporting Trump’s accusations against Obama.
Trump earlier this month tweeted that Obama wiretapped Trump Tower in New York City ahead of the election.
Comey also revealed Monday that the FBI is investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 race, including possible ties between Trump’s election campaign and Moscow.
The White House said Monday “no evidence” exists that Trump campaign officials colluded with Russia last year.
