White House: Lawmakers will vote Friday on healthcare plan

The White House said it expects the House to vote Friday on its ObamaCare replacement plan after an expected vote Thursday night was delayed, though GOP leadership hasn’t scheduled another vote.

The cancellation was a setback for President Trump and Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who struggled to cobble together enough votes to pass the plan.

Trump spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders asserted the vote was delayed to “avoid voting at 3 a.m.”

{mosads}“The vote will be in the morning,” she said in a statement. “We feel this should be done in the light of day, not in the wee hours of the night and we are confident the bill will pass in the morning.”

But top Republicans haven’t said whether that timing is set in stone.

“It’s our hope that we will be voting tomorrow,” House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on CNN.

A House Republican Conference meeting is set for Thursday evening after Republicans signaled they would not hold a vote on the anniversary of ObamaCare being signed into law.

Members of the conservative House Freedom Caucus said Thursday afternoon after meeting with Trump that they didn’t have a deal in place to back the GOP plan, the American Health Care Act.
