Democrats are seeing a big surge in candidates entering the upcoming 2018 House races as energy builds to oppose President Trump.
More than 400 Democrats have already committed to run in 2018 House races, Vice reported.
It’s a 58 percent increase from this point in the 2014 midterm cycle, when 259 Democrats had entered races.
{mosads}A Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) spokesperson told Vice that it is currently in talks with 300 possible candidates in roughly 70 GOP-controlled and open districts.
The committee also noted that 90 percent of the recruits have not yet filed official declarations of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
The large volume of candidates and recruits is making it difficult for the DCCC to decide how to best financially support the candidates. The committee is currently prioritizing the GOP-held districts that voted or almost voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, Vice reported.
Republicans currently have 238 seats in the House, with Democrats at 193 seats.
