Dem: Trump’s response to London attack ‘inappropriate for a toddler’

Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) on Tuesday went after President Trump for his response in the wake of the deadly terror attack on and around the London Bridge.

“What Donald Trump did in response to the British tragedy was, again, I think inappropriate for a toddler, much less the president of the United States,” Himes said during an interview on CNN’s “New Day.”

Himes also warned that Trump is “damaging the national security of the United States.”

{mosads}”And making us a laughing stock around the world,” he said, “at a moment in time when American leadership is particularly critical.”

Following the weekend attack in London, Trump targeted London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

“At least 7 dead and 48 wounded in terror attack and Mayor of London says there is ‘no reason to be alarmed!'” Trump tweeted.

Trump appeared to be referencing Khan’s comments earlier in the day, when he said there was no reason to worry about the increased police presence in London.

Trump on Monday doubled down on his attacks on the London mayor, tweeting: “Pathetic excuse by London Mayor Sadiq Khan who had to think fast on his ‘no reason to be alarmed’ statement. [Mainstream media] is working hard to sell it!”

Khan on Monday called on the British government to cancel a state visit from Trump.

“I don’t think we should roll out the red carpet to the president of the USA in the circumstances where his policies go against everything we stand for,” Khan said in an interview with Britain’s Channel 4 News
