A Democratic lawmaker on Sunday likened President Trump to a con artist.
“I know a con artist when I see one, and I saw a con artist that day,” Rep. Luis Gutiérrez (D-Ill.) said of Trump during a panel on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Gutiérrez, who sits on the House Judiciary Committee, said it appears Trump “knew exactly what he was doing” when he reportedly asked officials to leave the room so he could speak with former FBI Director James Comey alone. That is Comey’s account of the meeting.
Comey last week testified under oath that Trump during the private meeting asked him to “let go” of the probe into former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
“And then we’re supposed to believe he really doesn’t know what he’s doing,” Gutiérrez said, in what might have also been a dig at House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), who last week explained Trump lacks experience in handling such meetings with the FBI.
