Ryan: Pelosi’s grandkids ‘actually like me’

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) in an interview Thursday bonded over her grandchildren’s affection for the GOP leader.

During an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper at the annual charity Congressional Baseball Game, the lawmakers struck a tone of unity following Wednesday’s shooting during the GOP practice session.

“I thought you were going to brag about how much my grandchildren are your big fans,” Pelosi said to Ryan, laughing.

Lawmakers attended the annual game one day after a shooting that injured House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and four others at a baseball field in Alexandria, Va. 

Ryan during the interview expressed the need for members of Congress to “tone down the rhetoric.”

“It’s a tough age. It’s a partisan, polarized country. What we’re trying to do is tone down the rhetoric, lead by example and show people we can disagree with one another, we can have different ideas without going to extremes,” he said.
