Guam delegate: Constituents ‘very concerned’ about North Korea threat

Del. Madeleine Bordallo (D-Guam) said on Wednesday that her constituents are “very concerned” about the North Korean government’s threat to attack the Pacific island. 

“A threat is a threat, and I don’t think North Korea’s going to give us a week in advance notice or anything,” she told CNN’s Brooke Baldwin. “It’s dangerous.”

“The people of Guam are very concerned,” she continued. “North Korea’s remarks are very dangerous and it further heightens the tension in the region — in our region.”

{mosads}Tensions between Washington and Pyongyang rose Tuesday after reports emerged that North Korea had successfully developed a nuclear warhead small enough to be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile.

President Trump ratcheted up his rhetoric, telling reporters that North Korea would “be met with fire and fury … like the world has never seen” if it continues to threaten the U.S. 

Trump’s comments only seemed to escalate the confrontation with the reclusive country.

North Korea’s military said early Wednesday morning local time that it was “examining” a potential pre-emptive strike on Guam, a U.S. territory that hosts about 6,000 troops on its military installations.
