GOP lawmaker: Trump has bowed to the ‘military-industrial establishment’

Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) slammed President Trump following his address on the U.S. strategy in Afghanistan, saying he “bowed to [the] military-industrial establishment” with his open-ended plan.

During a prime-time address to the nation, Trump announced he wouldn’t pull American troops out of Afghanistan, saying it would create a “predictable and unacceptable” result of a power vacuum.

{mosads}Trump, however, did not give details on how many new troops he would be sending or their time frame.

“We will not talk about numbers of troops or our plan for further military activities,” he said. “Conditions on the ground, not arbitrary timetables, will guide our strategy for now on.”

Amash has been a fierce critic of Trump during his presidency.

Following Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey and the revelation that Trump allegedly tried to pressure Comey to stop investigating former national security adviser Michael Flynn, Amash said he trusted Comey more than Trump.

“I think it’s pretty clear I have more confidence in Director Comey,” Amash told reporters.

Amash also called for Congress to establish an independent commission to investigation Russian interference in the 2016 election. And he fired back at Trump after the president suggested members of the House Freedom Caucus, including Amash, were to blame for the House’s initial struggle to pass a bill to repeal ObamaCare.
