Bannon, Meadows talk possible replacement for Ryan: report

Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon is talking to Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) about possible replacements for House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) if conservatives were to attempt to oust him, according to a Washington Post report.

Those discussions, however, are informal, according to the Post, and there is not yet a plan to remove the powerful House Speaker. 

Bannon, who departed the White House last month and returned to Breitbart News as its executive chairman, has reportedly been in discussions with conservative Republican lawmakers about how they can assert more pressure on congressional leaders.

{mosads}Even after leaving the White House, Bannon has said that he will continue to fight for President Trump’s agenda. 

Meadows, the chairman of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, as well as two of the group’s other leaders, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Scott Perry (R-Pa.), met with Ryan on Wednesday to vent frustration with his leadership. 

While Ryan largely remains on good terms with House Republicans, Meadows, Jordan and Perry warned Ryan that conservatives could turn on him if he failed to pursue their agenda, according to the Post.
