Scalise thanks GOP Rep: You saved my life
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) thanked a GOP representative for saving his life after he was shot in June.
The House majority whip made a triumphant return to the Capitol Thursday, addressing Congress for the first time since he was shot during practice for a congressional baseball game in Alexandria, Va.
A member of Scalise’s Capitol Police security detail, a staffer and a lobbyist were also shot.
{mosads}Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio) is a doctor and a decorated Army ranger who took care of wounded soldiers in combat.
Scalise said that Wenstrup rushed to his side after he was shot in the hip and applied a tourniquet that stopped the flow of blood, allowing him to make it to the hospital.
“Who would have thought that God would have put Brad out on that field with me?” Scalise said. “The tourniquet he applied, many will tell you, saved my life.”
Wenstrup walked to the podium, embracing Scalise after his remarks.
