Puerto Rican lawmaker slams Trump for San Juan mayor attacks
Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-N.Y.), who is Puerto Rican, ripped into President Trump for his attacks on San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulin Cruz after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico.
“[Trump] your tweets on #PR show outrageous, unpresidential lack of empathy for U.S. Citizens! Do your job & focus on fed response!” Velazquez tweeted Saturday.

Trump is under fire for his criticism of Cruz, tweeting Saturday that she had “poor leadership abilities” while responding to the hurricane.
He doubled down on that criticism later Saturday, saying the “results of recovery efforts will speak much louder than complaints by San Juan Mayor.”

Lawmakers have since demanded that Trump step up the relief efforts to Puerto Rico and apologize to Cruz for his comments.
Cruz had held an emotional press conference Friday calling for more federal assistance to respond to the hurricane.
