Maxine Waters to Sessions: ‘Time to go back to the plantation’

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) blasted Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Friday, telling him to “go back to the plantation” after he said did not recall hearing if members of the Trump campaign were in contact with Russia.

“Sessions doesn’t remember what he said, when he said it, & where he was when he said it. Don’t blame him. Time to go back to the plantation,” Waters tweeted.

Her comments come after The New York Times reported that unsealed court documents revealed that Trump and Sessions were aware of correspondence between members of the campaign and Russian actors, despite saying earlier this year they were unaware of such communications.

The documents show that former Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos floated the idea of meeting with the Russian ambassador in London, during a meeting in which Trump and Sessions were present.

{mosads}Sessions told the Judiciary Committee earlier this year that he was unaware of any contact between the Trump campaign and Russians.

Democratic lawmakers have since called for Sessions to return to testify before the Judiciary Committee.

“He now needs to come back before the Committee, in person, under oath, to explain why he cannot seem to provide truthful, complete answers to these important and relevant questions,” Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) said in a statement.

Special counsel Robert Mueller revealed earlier this week that Papadopoulos had pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russian actors during the campaign.

Mueller also brought conspiracy and money laundering charges against Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his associate Richard Gates.
