Dem introduces resolution calling for investigation of sexual misconduct allegations against Trump

A Democratic lawmaker has introduced a resolution calling on Congress to investigate claims of sexual assault and misconduct against President Trump following calls from several Senate Democrats for Trump’s resignation.

Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday introduced a resolution calling for an investigation either in an existing committee or through the creation of a new committee specifically designed to probe the claims from multiple women that Trump sexually assaulted them.

Meeks’s measure follows a press conference on Monday from three women who united for the first time to accuse Trump of various instances of sexual misconduct while he was a private businessman.

Dozens of Democratic female lawmakers are also calling on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against Trump.

“In this pivotal time, when the nation should be able to look to a President for moral leadership, we must look elsewhere. Instead of stamping out sexism, President Trump—who has bragged about committing sexual assault himself—has fanned its flames,” Meeks said in a statement.

“He has resorted to claiming that all of the thirteen women with credible sexual misconduct allegations against him are liars,” Meeks continued. “Well, it is time to get to the bottom of it.”

Roughly a dozen women during the 2016 presidential campaign accused Trump of sexual assault, charges which Trump has repeatedly denied. On Monday, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said that the White House would provide a document refuting the individual claims of Trump’s accusers.

“I can say that the president has directly responded and said that these allegations are false and that’s what I’m doing and relaying that information to you. In terms of the specific eyewitness accounts, there have been multiple reports; I’d be happy to provide them to you after the briefing,” Sanders said.
