25 House Dems demand Kushner’s firing

A group of 25 House Democrats on Wednesday called for White House chief of staff John Kelly to fire senior adviser Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law.

“It is impossible for the American people or their elected Representatives to have faith that Jared Kushner will put their interests above his own personal and financial interests,” the lawmakers wrote in a Wednesday letter.

{mosads}“The only path forward is clear: Jared Kushner must resign immediately. If he will not, we believe it is your duty as White House Chief of Staff to fire him,” they added.

Rep. Don Beyer (Va.) led two dozen other Democratic lawmakers in signing the letter. Other signatories include Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Ted Lieu (Calif.) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.).

The letter notes a series of recent news reports on Kushner’s financial interests and interactions with foreign leaders.

The Washington Post reported late last month that foreign officials from at least four countries have discussed how to use Kushner’s lack of experience to their advantage.

Meanwhile, special counsel Robert Mueller is reportedly looking into whether Kushner’s financial ties have had any impact on the Trump administration’s policies.

“It is grossly irresponsible to continue allowing Jared Kushner such direct influence over American foreign policy, given the many red flags,” the representatives wrote in their letter to Kelly.

The Democrats praised Kelly for recently downgrading Kushner’s security clearance from top secret to secret, but said that does not go far enough. Instead, they argue the president’s son-in-law should not have access to any classified material.

The White House said Kushner would remain in his role despite his security clearance downgrade.
