John Lewis at gun control march: I’m proud to wear NRA’s ‘F’

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) declared Saturday that he was “proud” to have received an “F” rating on his position on gun rights from the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Speaking at the “March for Our Lives” rally in Atlanta, Lewis boasted that he and many other Democratic lawmakers bore failing grades from the powerful gun rights lobbying group.

“You know the NRA gave me an ‘F,’ and I’m proud, I’m proud to wear that ‘F,’ ” he said. “So on the Democratic side of the House of Representatives, many members of Congress are wearing an ‘F.’ “

“I can flunk out of the NRA university over and over again,” he added.

The rally in Atlanta was one of dozens taking place across the country on Saturday to protest gun violence and call for stricter gun control measures following a deadly shooting at a South Florida high school last month.

The NRA’s influence on lawmakers has come under particular scrutiny in the aftermath of that shooting, with protesters and gun control advocates calling out politicians who have taken campaign contributions from the group.
