GOP lawmaker handing out pocket Constitutions to trick-or-treaters on Halloween
GOP Rep. Mark Sanford on Wednesday shared a photo of his not-so-spooky Halloween giveaway for trick-or-treaters.

“Happy Halloween,” he tweeted. “Accordingly, Pocket Constitutions are at the ready for today’s trick-or-treaters.”

Sanford, the former governor of South Carolina, lost an election for the first time earlier this year, when he was defeated in his GOP primary by state Rep. Katie Arrington.
The primary became a referendum on Sanford’s criticism of President Trump. He was a frequent critic of the president and was one of the few GOP lawmakers to call on Trump to release his tax returns.
Trump notably endorsed Sanford’s opponent at the last minute, in a tweet that came just hours before polls closed.
Cook Political Report ranks the race for the open seat between Arrington and her Democratic opponent, attorney and engineer Joe Cunningham, as “lean Republican.”
