Comer calls White House spokesperson a ‘clown’ after Hunter Biden memo

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) called White House spokesperson Ian Sams a “clown” Wednesday, after Sams dismissed a recent memo from the panel’s GOP staff as a “flop.”

“I could have done without that picture,” Comer said on Newsmax after the network displayed an image of Sams along with his quote. “He’s not the most flattering person I’ve ever seen. But at the end of the day, Ian Sams is a clown.”

House Oversight Republicans released a third memo Wednesday based on bank records obtained by the committee, outlining the millions of dollars that flowed from foreign sources to Hunter Biden and his associates. However, they have yet to identify any direct payments to the president.

The memo argued they do not need to show direct payments to President Biden to demonstrate corruption, calling such claims a “weak defense” and saying payments to family members to “corruptly influence others” can constitute a bribe under the law.

Sams, who is serving as White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, said in a statement to Newsmax on Wednesday the House GOP memo is “full of years-old news, innuendo and misdirection” and “yet again” lacks a direct link to Biden.

“Comer hypes up self-proclaimed bombshell findings about President Biden, and time after time fails to provide any actual evidence,” Sams said. “Today’s release is yet another flop.”

However, Comer questioned “how much more evidence” Sams and others would need to prove Biden did something wrong.

“For someone getting paid with our tax dollars, like Ian Sams, to stand up and say that they haven’t proven Joe Biden did anything wrong, how much more evidence do they need?” Comer told Newsmax on Wednesday.

“I’ll tell you this, Rob. Ian Sams can say one thing. The media can say one thing,” he continued. “But the American people see that there’s corruption here. They realize that this family has profited off of their backs, paying taxes for this government, and they want something done about it.”
