Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.) defended Rep. Mia Love (Utah) Tuesday against attacks from President Trump, saying he was “disgusted” when he heard Trump take delight in her likely defeat in last week’s midterms.
Love was among a number of Republican lawmakers whom Trump called out last week during a press conference the day after the election, saying they lost because they didn’t embrace him enough.
“I was disgusted when I heard it. These are members that, in their districts, are reflecting their district. Some of them lost because people were frankly voting against the president,’ Kinzinger said Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day.”
During his news conference last week, Trump said that Love “gave me no love.”{mosads}
“And she lost. Too bad. Sorry about that Mia,” he said.
Trump also attacked GOP Reps. Mike Coffman (Colo.), Carlos Curbelo (Fla.) and Barbara Comstock (Va.) for distancing themselves from him.
Kinzinger said Tuesday on “New Day” that he would have preferred to see Trump show “grace.”
“A little more grace would’ve been a lot better. I was very disgusted when I heard that. Let’s go forward and look out how we’re going to do better in 2020,” he said.
