Jeffries drops Naughty by Nature reference in nominating Pelosi

House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.) on Thursday during the first session of the new Congress rose to nominate Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as the next Speaker.

{mosads}“House Democrats are down with NDP, Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi, the once and future Speaker of the United States House of Representatives,” he said on the floor in what appeared to be a reference to a 1990s Naughty by Nature song, “Down with OPP.”

Jeffries, who is often discussed as a future Speaker, was met with roaring applause from the left side of the chamber.

House Republican Conference Chairwoman Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) then proceeded to nominate Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who served as majority leader during the 115th Congress.

Pelosi will be officially elected Speaker later on Thursday.
