Republicans kill proposal to change Speaker nominating process
Republicans on Wednesday killed a proposal that would have temporarily raised the threshold to nominate a GOP Speaker to the number of votes needed to win on the House floor, according to two sources.
The proposed rules change was intended to keep internal disputes behind closed doors and avoid a repeat of the marathon floor battle to elect former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in January.
