House GOP campaign arm reports best online fundraising day in 18 months

The House GOP campaign arm reported its best online fundraising day in 18 months Friday, providing a glimpse into Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-La.) potential to carry on the fundraising torch passed down by his predecessor, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the political committee helping elect more Republicans in the House, pulled in $175,000, the group’s best online fundraising day since February 2022.

The total amount raised between Friday and Saturday ultimately came to more than $475,000.

“Speaker Johnson is off to a hot start in the money game,” NRCC’s Communications Director Jack Pandol said. “The NRCC is proud to partner with our Speaker to ensure we have the resources to grow our majority.”

Roughly three-quarters of the fundraising haul came from emails signed by Johnson, in a possible sign of the Speaker’s appeal with the grassroots.

The group also saw record-shattering sign-ups from the monthly donors and a heavy influx of individual donations.

The strong fundraising start will deflect some doubt within GOP circles about Johnson’s ability to successfully replace McCarthy as the party’s new fundraising juggernaut. McCarthy’s fundraising success was crucial during the 2022 midterms, when he raised more than $34.5 million between his leadership PAC, personal campaign committee and the Majority Committee according to OpenSecrets data
