Dem lawmaker inspires social media users to share selfies in their glasses
Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.) encouraged social media users on Wednesday to share pictures in their glasses after a mom wanted encouragement for her daughter who hated her new spectacles.
Pressley tweeted a photo saying that she had “no choice” but to wear her glasses in public after she ran out of contact lenses.
The congresswoman, who had been “rocking’ bifocals since 2nd grade,” asked fellow female lawmakers including Reps. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.), Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to also share pictures of their lenses.
“Ran into a mom who asked me to post this pic for her 9yr old who hates her new glasses,” Pressley wrote.
So. I ran out of lenses & had no choice but to wear these in public, something I never, ever do, although I’ve been rockin’ bifocals since 2nd grade. Ran into a mom who asked me to post this pic for her 9yr old who hates her new glasses. Paging @LaurenUnderwood @RashidaTlaib @AOC pic.twitter.com/iyukzptL9t

Ocasio-Cortez told her colleague that she looked “fab” in a comment. Tlaib responded with her own selfie.
“.@AyannaPressley women in Congress wear eye glasses & look fresh doing it. Love them on you sis! You look even more fierce.”

Hey 9 year old:
Glasses are funky & hip. I didn’t know how cool they were when I was your age but now I do.
