Conservative rep: Cohen hearing ‘first step’ in Dems’ ‘crazy’ impeachment plan
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said late Wednesday that Michael Cohen’s hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee was the “first step” in the Democrats’ plans to impeach President Trump.
“I do not think you could believe much of what this guy says. What I do think was going on today is that this was the first step in the Democrats’ crazy impeachment plans,” Jordan said during an interview on Fox News’s “Special Report.”
Democratic leadership, however, noted that their members did not mention impeachment during questioning of Cohen.
{mosads}“Isn’t it interesting that not one person on our side even mentioned the word impeachment?” the committee’s chairman Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said after the hearing. “Not one.”
During his testimony, Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney, accused the president of a range of lies and criminal activity. He called Trump a “racist,” a “con man” and a “cheat.”
Jordan, the ranking member on the Oversight and Reform Committee, and other Republicans on the committee sought to discredit Cohen, often noting that he is about to start a three-year prison sentence for crimes that include lying to Congress. Cohen is expected to report to prison in May.
Jordan said during the Fox News interview that his “first takeaway” from the hearing was that Cohen “is delusional.”
“Again, I do not think that you could trust anything that he says,” Jordan said.
