Freshman lawmaker jokes about pace of Washington politics
Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.) joked on Wednesday that the pace of Washington politics led her to go an entire day without realizing she was wearing mismatched shoes.
“People ask me all the time about the pace of things in DC,” Scanlon, a rookie congresswoman, tweeted. “It’s 4:04PM and I just noticed that I have gone an entire day with two different shoes on.”

Scanlon was officially sworn into the House of Representatives in January after being elected to represent Pennsylvania’s 5th Congressional District.{mosads}
She assumed a position previously held by Republican Pat Meehan, who resigned last year after sexual harassment allegations were made against him by an aide.
Scanlon campaigned on issues such as health care and gun reform during the 2018 congressional race. She was one of dozens of women elected to Congress in last November’s midterm elections.
