Dem lawmaker: Trump’s language on immigrants ‘same type of propaganda that we heard in the 1920s’ against Jews
Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) on Tuesday said President Trump’s rhetoric against immigrants was “the same type of propaganda” used against Jews in the 1920s.
Trump “demeans” immigrants and pushes “constant propaganda” about them, Nadler said during an immigration town hall in Brooklyn.
“You’ve heard the president of the administration say that immigrants are thieves, that they bring in drugs, that they’re responsible for lots of crime, that we have a crisis at our border that they’re bringing in drugs and crime,” Nadler said.
{mosads}“This is the same type of propaganda that we heard in the 1920s and after World War I against Jews,” he continued.
The propaganda pushed against the Jewish people prior to World War II attacked them as Bolsheviks, thieves and violent people, the congressman said.
“We heard that against the Irish earlier. But now we’re hearing it against this generation’s immigrants. And it is just as false now,” Nadler said.
The House Judiciary Committee chairman’s remarks came during a “Know Your Rights” town hall with the New York Immigration Coalition and the New Sanctuary Coalition.
Thank you JCH Bensonhurst for the warm welcome for our Town Hall on a difficult topic: the barriers facing immigrants & our our unjust laws. I appreciate @MaketheRoadNY, @thenyic & @NewSanctuaryNYC for joining us! pic.twitter.com/eCKGJS56lC

Nadler is currently conducting a widespread investigation into the president’s administration, campaign and businesses.
The congressman has criticized the Trump administration’s immigration measures in the past, calling them “inhuman policies” that are meant to “deter people from coming to the border and claiming political asylum.”
His town hall came shortly after a 40-year-old Mexican immigrant died in Customs and Border Protection custody one day after being arrested for illegal re-entry.
That is the fourth time a person has died after being apprehended by the federal agency in recent months.
