Pelosi: ‘I trust Mueller’ over Barr

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) pushed for the release of Robert Mueller’s full report on his investigation of Russian election interference and the Trump campaign during an interview Wednesday.

Pelosi told The Associated Press that she doesn’t trust the brief summary of the nearly two-year investigation released last month by Attorney General William Barr. Since then, there have been reports that members of Mueller’s team dispute Barr’s characterization of the investigation’s findings.

{mosads}“He is not the attorney general of Donald Trump. He is the attorney general of the United States. I don’t trust Barr, I trust Mueller,” Pelosi said, adding that she was “very concerned” with Barr’s handling of the investigation.

The Democratic leader remained cautious, however, about the prospect of filing articles of impeachment against President Trump absent a revelation in the Mueller report that would warrant such an action, repeating her assertion that Trump was “not worth” the divisiveness of impeachment proceedings.

“My view is that impeachment is very divisive in the country, and when we see what we need to see it may be imperative that he be impeached. But up until then, he’s not worth it,” she said.

“Let us see the report,” she added, telling the news service that it was only a “matter of time” until Democrats obtained it.

Democrats have pushed for weeks for the full release of Mueller’s report, with some suggesting that Barr’s report of Mueller’s findings may be inaccurate. During testimony before a House subcommittee on Tuesday, Barr stated that the report would be prepared for public release within days.

“The process is going along very well,” Barr said Tuesday. “My original timetable of being able to release this by mid-April stands.”

“Within a week, I will be in a position to release the report to the public and then I will engage with the chairman of the Judiciary committee,” he added.

According to Barr, Mueller found no evidence of criminal collusion with Russia by Trump or his campaign. Mueller did not reach a conclusion on the issue of obstruction of justice, according to Barr.
