Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) was cleared Wednesday of domestic violence allegations after police found no evidence to support her husband’s now-recanted claim that she punched him in the face during a Saturday fight, the Silt, Colo., Police Department said.

“Due to a lack of any evidence, the allegations of Domestic Violence against Rep. Lauren Boebert are unfounded and the investigation into Rep. Lauren Boebert is closed,” police said in a statement.

Jayson Boebert was arrested on misdemeanor charges allegedly related to the fight, which took place at Miner’s Claim Restaurant in Silt.

In the statement, a Silt Police spokesperson confirmed an initial 911 call Saturday night from Jayson Boebert making “domestic violence abuse” claims before hanging up. The congresswoman then called and, police said, a male voice was heard in the background saying “she punched me in the face.”

When police arrived at the scene, Lauren Boebert “was cooperative with law enforcement and provided her side of the story.”

Jayson Boebert, however, was “highly intoxicated, yelling at officers, and was uncooperative with the investigation,” police said. After several times refusing to leave the restaurant, they said he was physically removed from the premises by law enforcement.

Police said there was no surveillance footage of the incident, and police found upon arriving at the scene that “although he claimed he had been punched in the face, officers observed no marks or injury on Jayson Boebert to corroborate he had actually been assaulted.”

Jayson Boebert was arrested Tuesday on misdemeanor charges allegedly related to the incident, The Associated Press reported.

In a statement Monday to The Hill, the congresswoman denied initiating a physical attack and said she would consult with her lawyer about “false claims” made against her.

“This is a sad situation for all that keeps escalating and another reason I’m moving. I didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”

The Boeberts’ divorce was finalized in 2023 after nearly 18 years of marriage. They have four sons together.

The congresswoman, who recently announced she would move and run for Congress in the neighboring and more conservative district, has described the past year as difficult.

“Personally, this announcement is a fresh start following a pretty difficult year for me and my family. I’ve never been in politics before, and I’ve never been through a divorce — something I never intended to go through,” Boebert said in a December announcement video about her intentions to run for the 4th Congressional District in Colorado in 2024.

“I’ve made my own personal mistakes and have owned up and apologized for them. It’s tested my faith, my strength and my abilities both as a mom and a congresswoman. It’s been humbling and challenging, but it’s also given me perspective and helped me grow. I cannot put into words how grateful I am for everyone who has steadfastly stood alongside of me in the third district and across America.”
