Pelosi to give commencement address at San Francisco State
San Francisco State University announced this week that Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) would be the school’s keynote speaker at this month’s graduation.
In a press release, the university honored Pelosi for her status as the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House during more than three decades as San Francisco’s congressional representative.
{mosads}”Nancy Pelosi is the 52nd Speaker of the House of Representatives, having made history in 2007 when she was elected the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House,” read the press release on Monday.
“Now in her third term as Speaker, Pelosi made history again in January 2019 when she regained her position second-in-line to the presidency, the first person to do so in more than 60 years. For 31 years, Speaker Pelosi has represented San Francisco’s 12th District in Congress,” the announcement continued.
Pelosi was reelected to serve as the top Democrat in the House this year despite a rebellion from dozens of House Democrats who voted against her nomination.
She has since emerged as President Trump’s top opponent on Capitol Hill, and along with Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) battled the president on funding for a border wall amid the partial government shutdown earlier this year.
The school’s graduation will be held on May 28, and is expected to be attended by more than 30,000 guests, according to the university.
