Tlaib calls on Amash to join impeachment resolution

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) is calling on fellow Michigan Rep. Justin Amash (R) to sign on to a resolution introducing articles of impeachment against President Trump after Amash tweeted Saturday that Trump’s conduct rose to the “threshold” of impeachment.

In a pair of her own tweets, Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) commended Amash for putting “country over party” and implored him to add his name as a cosponsor to a House resolution supported by dozens of Democrats but opposed by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Tlaib previously went viral shortly after taking office this year when video of her speaking at a Washington, D.C. event surfaced revealing the Democratic congresswoman threatening to “impeach the motherf-cker,” referring to Trump.

Amash himself became the lone Republican in the House to call Trump’s conduct outlined in Robert Mueller’s report of his investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia impeachable, writing in a series of tweets Saturday that Attorney General William Barr had attempted to obscure the findings of the special counsel probe.

“Here are my principal conclusions: 1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report. 2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct. 3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances. 4. Few members of Congress have read the report,” Amash wrote on Twitter Saturday afternoon.

“Mueller’s report reveals that President Trump engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment,” he added. “Mueller’s report identifies multiple examples of conduct satisfying all the elements of obstruction of justice, and undoubtedly any person who is not the president of the United States would be indicted based on such evidence.”
