Amash officially files as Independent
Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.) officially filed as an Independent with the House clerk on Tuesday, one day after he submitted a letter formally resigning from the Republican conference and his position on the House Oversight and Reform Committee.

His change in party affiliation is expected to be reflected for the first time during Tuesday evening’s vote series.
Amash — a staunch critic of President Trump — announced his exit from the GOP in a July 4 op-ed in The Washington Post.
Tensions between the Michigan lawmaker and the Republican Party began to escalate after he announced his support for initiating impeachment proceedings.
