Crockett to Greene: ‘Don’t come for me’

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) warned Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) to not come after her after the two lawmakers clashed during a House committee hearing Thursday night.

“Don’t come for me,” Crockett told MSNBC’s Katie Phang when asked if she had any other messages to share with Greene. “That is all that I need to tell her. Don’t come for me with it.”

Chaos erupted during a House Oversight Committee hearing Thursday night after Greene asked Democratic members of the committee whether any of them are employing the daughter of the judge overseeing former President Trump’s hush money case.

“Please tell me what that has to do with Merrick Garland,” Crockett asked, referring to Attorney General Merrick Garland. “Do you know what we’re here for?”

“I don’t think you know what you’re here for,” Greene responded. “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading.”

Greene’s comment prompted outrage from Democrats, and Crockett later said the Republican’s behavior was “absolutely” racist.

In her interview Saturday, Crockett blasted the House Republicans for postponing the hearing from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday so that some Republican lawmakers could attend Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan earlier that day. The exchange came during a markup to hold Garland in contempt of Congress.

“You know, we showed up ready to work, and unfortunately, we cannot have our hearing at 11 o’clock. Even though this is a pointless hearing and it’s, it’s ridiculous, in and of itself that we needed to have it, but we showed up,” Crockett said in remarks highlighted by Mediaite.

“They’re in the majority. They set the agenda … And they decided that they would skip work and go to New York to be involved in Trump’s trial,” Crockett added.

“And so then we get back at 8 p.m. and instead of focusing on what the task at hand was, which was whether or not AG Merrick Garland was going to be held in contempt of Congress, Marjorie Taylor Greene started talking about Judge [Juan Merchan], which is why I asked her, ‘Do you know why we’re here?’ And ultimately, it devolved into the debacle that it did.”

The Hill has reached out to Greene’s office for comment.
